Cupping You Can Do At Home: Silicone Press Cups

👋When you don’t have the time or money to get bodywork for relief of tension and pain, silicone cups made for home use can come in super handy promote muscle relaxation and blood flow.

These are soft, flexible cups with an accordion shape. When you compress them with your fingers, place them on the skin and release, suction is created. The suctions creates blood flow, and helps to break up muscle adhesions that can make knots very difficult to get rid of. Essentially cupping is a form of bodywork, just one that uses suction instead of compression on the tissue. Cupping has also demonstrated in studies that it can provoke a healthy immune response if you’re sick!

They are very easy to place on any part of the body you can reach, as Chell demonstrates after learning the basics from Angela Simon LMT. These work much better if you use an oil or (even better), a sore muscle balm to help the suction to grip better.

For areas in the mid back, ask a loved to help you out. (Or stand against the wall, place them behind you where you want them and use your body weight to press them on. Just don’t get the wall oily, like me 🛢🙄.)

You can do cupping on yourself a few times a week, just be careful not to leave them on the same spots for more than 15 minutes. Expect some bruising, which usually fades in quickly (most people see them disappear in 4-5 days). The bruising just demonstrates a healthy, normal response to cupping.

🚨NEVER cup over bruises, cuts, scabs or skin irritation like eczema. DON’T cup over areas that still have cupping marks from last time. Let them fade first.🚨
