Ever wonder what cupping is actually used for?
As it turns out, we use it for a lot of things! We frequently use cupping for muscular tension, strains and injuries. It can help mobility and decrease pain by moving circulation and breaking adhesions in tight areas. We also use it for immune support and to promote lymphatic movement..
This is a great example of how the body can be gently coaxed towards healthier functioning with very simple methods. Cupping is painless, but will leave some bruising. That’s to be expected, and the marks will go away usually within 3-5 days.
Anyone can use cupping at home, they’re a great thing to have in the medicine cabinet. You many have seen the fire cupping technique online, and might be a little intimidated! A much easier way is to use a suction type cupping set. The only drawback is that it’s pretty hard to use that suction gun on your middle or lower back without some help. Silicone cups are a little more versatile - they’re simply pressed on, which creates the suction. Click the links below to see a few examples of cupping sets you can get the hang of quickly.
*NOTE: You can do cupping every few days, but don’t leave them on in the same spots for more than about 15 minutes. You can give yourself blisters.
DON’T cup over areas that already have cupping marks! Move them around! When the marks are gone you can re-cup those spots, not before.
